Frequently Asked Questions

key west fishing charters FL FAQs

Here are some answers to the frequently asked questions for our key west fishing charters.

That really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to fish for a specific type of fish, then you’ll want to look for a charter that specializes in that. For example, if you want to go deep sea fishing for tuna, you’ll want to find a charter with a boat designed for that type of fishing.

Our fishing guides are all licensed and insured so you do not have to worry aobut getting a license.

If you are booking a fishing charter in key west, a true charter should never ask you to get a license. They should either have one themselves or have a way of getting you a license.

There are a few things you need to remember to bring when going on a fishing charter. Firstly, appropriate clothing is a must. This means bringing sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses for weather protection, as well as comfortable shoes that can get wet and preferably non-slip. You should also pack snacks and drinks, as well as lunch if you’re planning on being out on the water all day.

We do not recommend that you drink alcoholic beverages before or during the fishing charter, but you are more than welcome to drink after your successful fishing trip.

We recommend that you bring:

  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Snacks
  • Drinks (non-alcoholic)
  • Camera
  • Clothing for the season. Be sure to bring warm clothes in the winter seasons
  • Shoes – Non-Slip if you have them

No, you do not need to bring your own fishing gear. We will provide all the necessary equipment for your charter.

The average boat ride before we are fishing is around 30 minutes. However, this number can differ depending on the type of fishing charter you book. For instance, if you book a full day fishing charter, the captain will take you into deepr waters and target larger trophy fish.

Ultimately, it is best to ask us when booking your charter!

Our fishing charters will keep the reel buzzing all day! We always make sure our guests leave with a smile and a story

Our fishing charters do not have bathrooms on board. We recommend that you use the restroom before your charter begins. If you feel the urge to use the bathroom, just let the captain know and he can stop the boat so you can use the restroom.

One of the most frequently asked questions. Your day will fishing charter will include:

  • Bottled water on ice in the cooler
  • Fishing license for everyone during the charter
  • All needed fishing tackle and bait for the given day
  • Instruction and techniques
  • Fish cleaning (if bringing a few home for lunch/dinner)
  • Gas
  • Captain and Crew
  • All of the latest safety equiptment

This is a difficult question to answer as it all depends on the fish. For example, if you’re targeting larger fish, you may only catch what the locals laws allow. However, if you’re targeting smaller fish, you could easily catch your limit.

Be sure to talk to your captain when you are booking!

If there is bad weather, your captain will keep you informed of the situation. If it is safe to fish, your captain will take you to the best spots. If it is not safe to fish, your captain will reschedule your charter for another day.

*When a professional, full-time skipper tells you the weather isn’t going to be suitable for a charter, he or she is probably right. This is him/her giving up their income that day so you don’t waste yours, ultimately saving you from an unpleasant experience.

We accept cash and all major credit cards.

Tipping is not required, but always appreciated by the captain and crew. The normal tip is around 15-20% of the charter fee.

If you need to cancel your charter, please do so at least 48 hours in advance. This will allow us to offer your spot to another customer.

No problem! We will be more than happy to give you some tips and techniques.

We recommend that you take seasickness medication before your charter. However, if you do feel sick, let the captain know so he can stop the boat.

No, there is no minimum number of people required. However, the price will stay the same regardless of how many people are on the charter.
